National Hot Toddy Day
Hot Toddy is made up of hot water, whiskey, honey, and lemon as basic ingredients (add a stick of cinnamon to spice things up!). It's a light cocktail offering adequate hydration and warmth - an ideal drink during the cool winter months.
Celebrate Hot Toddy Day with warm and festive cocktails!
Hot Toddy #1
Ingredients:
- Boiling water
- 2 ounces of choice alcohol like Scotch, Bourbon, Rye, Irish Whiskey, Dark Rum, Cognac or Amaro
- ¾ ounce of light honey like acacia, maple syrup, or 1 teaspoon of Demerara sugar
- 1 (3-inch) lemon peel
- 1 Cinnamon stick and whole star anise as garnish (optional)
Preparation:
Fill an 8 ounce heatproof mug or glass with boiling water and set aside for about 1 minute. Pour the water out then add the alcohol spirit and honey to the warmed glass. Top alcohol-honey mixture with boiling water and stir until the honey is dissolved. Garnish with the lemon peel and cinnamon stick or star anise, if desired. Let it cool slightly to warm temperature and enjoy!

Preparation:
Pour honey, boiling water, and whiskey into a heat-resistant mug. Add the cloves and cinnamon to spice it, and put in the slice of lemon. Allow the mixture to cool for 5 minutes to allow flavors to mix, then sprinkle a pinch of nutmeg before serving.
