From their irresistible crunch to their cheesy goodness, cheese doodles have become a beloved snack-time favorite across the nation. Let's dive into the cheesy world of cheese doodles and discover how you can make the most of this cheesy holiday!
Those of you who never heard of cheese doodles, these cheesy-flavored
snacks are a type of extruded cheese that come in different shapes and
sizes like cheese balls, cheese curls and the famously, ever popular
Cheetos.
Wisconsin, as one of the nation’s leading dairy producers and known as
“America’s Dairyland” has been in the forefront in cheese snack
manufacturing. Since the 1930’s, the late cheese snack pioneer Edward Wilson of Beloit, Wisconsin noticed “strings of puffed corn oozing from
flaking machines”.
However, it wasn't until the 1940s that the popular snack we know and love today was perfected by another inventor, Morrie Yohai. Yohai's creation, known as "Cheez Doodles," quickly gained popularity and became a staple in snack aisles across the country.
Later versions of the cheese snacks were created that include
manufacturers like Frito Lay and their Cheetos in 1948 and more
recently B&G Foods and their Pirates Booty puff snacks in 1987.
Celebrities from the famous late chef Julia Childs and even today’s
superstars like Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, and Katy Perry have all given a shout out to Cheetos.
If you’re one of the millions of people that proclaim your unending
love for the cheese doodle and don’t mind getting your fingers
tarnished with tasty, bright orange cheese – today could be the day
worth binging on.
