April 2 is Autism Awareness Day
April 2 is Autism Awareness Day seeks to raise awareness of the autism sprectrum disorders and those afflicted with autism. This day was designated by the United Nations in 2007 to end discrimination and remove the stigma against those with autism.
Recent studies suggest that autism now affects 1 in 68 children and 1 in 42 boys, where boys are 5 times more likely to have autism than girls.
Things You Could Do
- Wear blue. Light up your home blue with blue light bulbs.
- Watch a movie about autism such as Fly Away, Sounding the Alarm and The Story of Luke.
- Use hashtags #LIUB (Light it up Blue), #WorldAutismAwarenessDay, #WAD and #autism in Social Media.
