Moisturizers
Moisturizers are food for your skin. We say this because skin that lacks an abundant amount of moisture can lead to rapid skin aging. If you're like one of the many people that are exposed to extreme weather, or suffer from chronic dry skin, a daily application of moisturizers should be an important part of your skincare routine.
Moisturizers can be classified into 3 main components.
1. Humectants - are compounds that attract and draw moisture in. These include glycerin, sorbitol, proteins and amino acids like hyaluronic acid, and fatty compounds like lecithin.
2. Occlusives - are compounds that trap moisture in. These include petrolatum or petroleum jelly, silicone, lanolin, and various oils.
3. Emollients - are compounds that contain silicone, oils, butter, and petroleum to soften the skin layers.
Remember, you can stay with the brand you know and trust, but there are some new and exciting skincare product lines that work better and safer when it comes to relieving dry skin, as well as, protecting the environment.
