Carrier Oils
Carrier oils have an important role when it comes to the delivery of essential oils. Carrier oils provide a base for essential oils to be diluted so that only small amounts of essential oil is used.
Why use less? Essential oils can come in highly diluted forms. This makes these oils to be absorbed rapidly in the skin and can lead to skin irritation and allergic reactions. To lessen this risk, the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA) a non-profit association devoted to the holistic integration and education of aromatherapy recommends avoiding the use of undiluted essential oils for skin applications.
Carrier oils are available in nut-based like almond oil. But if you're allergic to nuts, you won't want almond oil on your skin. Alternatively, apricot kernel, avocado, grapeseed and coconut oils maybe better choices. All these oils make excellent skin moisturizer.
